How a job goes
Five steps, and you know where you stand at each one. Most of what people worry about with a tradesman happens in the gaps between them, so I keep the gaps short.

- 02I come and measureUsually within a week. Half an hour in the room, and I tell you what I would do and what I would leave alone.
- 03The quote arrives in writingItemised, by email, within two days. The price does not move unless you change the job.
- 04We book a dateA start date and a realistic finish date, not a vague week. If something slips you hear it from me first.

Loft conversion, framed and boardedTwo weeks of framing under the rafters and then boarding out. The gable was blockwork on one side and old brick on the other, so the linings were packed out to meet in a single flat plane rather than following what was there.
Curved bar counter, commercial fit-outFramed and clad in a long continuous curve, then tiled. The radius was set out full size on the floor first, so the front came round in one line instead of a series of flats pretending to be a curve.
Door sets with vision panelsSets hung and vision panels fitted square to one another, linings taped and caulked ready for the decorator.
Where I work
I work out of Cheddar, and most jobs are within half an hour of it: down through Sedgemoor and across the Levels, up onto the Mendips, and out to the coast at Burnham and Weston.
If you are further out than that, ring and ask anyway. I would rather tell you no on the phone than leave you waiting a week for a quote that was never coming.
